It's a NEW DAWN!! It's a NEW DAY!!

The view driving in Edmonton
#yesijustsangthesongfromSpirit #horsemovies #noshame

This email is gonna be short cause we have like ZERO time to email this week. Why? Because Sister Wilson and I moved out of our batcave today and upgraded to a house!!! HOORAY! Yeah. It's like. So. Nice. I'll send pics once we're done unpacking. :)

Funny story about moving in:
So. We're moving into a house that has members living in the basement. The members didn't want to live upstairs....so it's like our house with basement guests...haha. Anyways. This member is so sweet. Kinda nutso. But sooo sweet. The whole time we were moving stuff in, she was dancing around us making weird comments about how much stuff we have. haha. Then she taught us how to recycle and threatened to steal our beds... :) So yeah. I'm stoked. haha

This week I went on the best exchange of my life. I got to go be in a YSA ward for the day with Sister Kunz. SHE'S AMAZING!!!!! I love her so so much. I know that as an STL, I'm supposed to be there to really help the sisters around me, but she helped me more than I helped her I think. So she was totally my STL for the day.

While on exchanges we got the chance to teach one of their investigators named D. She's had a HARD LIFE. So you can tell there are some struggles there. When you look at her, there's no depth in her eyes. Like. It's really hard to describe but she just looks empty. Honestly we're not really sure about her. But as we taught her, we could clearly tell she was feeling the spirit. As we testified of Jesus Christ's love for her, you could see light come to her eyes and fill her.
I love when I get a chance to see the fulfillment of the scriptures:

"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
John 8:12

The rest of the week was pretty much the same as always except that we spent a large portion of our weekend deep cleaning our batcave. (literally the ward calls it that. funny, hey?) It was fun.

In relief society, we had the BEWARE OF PRIDE lesson. haha. oh man. That lesson is like a big slap in the face with a slice of humble pizza. The sad part is, Sunday morning before church, I came across the talk "Repent of Our Selfishness" by Neal A. Maxwell. So I had the same rebuke about being prideful. TWICE. #messagereceived

So yeah. That's what I'll be working on this week and the rest of my life. Sounds fun, hey? haha. Life is good.
I really love being a missionary right now. It feels soooo urgent. Because, well, IT IS! So it's really great to be busy doing the Lord's work here. And I love Glen Allan. :)

Well. Gotta go! Supper time! And it's Sister Wilson's birthday today, so I gotta go surprise her with more exciting stuff. :) I already got to say, "For your birthday, you get a NEEWW HOUSE!" How am I going to top that???
Wish me luck.

Love,
Sister Whiting
Happy birthday, Sister Wilson!

Exchanges with Sister Moser

What a week! Sheesh. This email will probs be waaaaay too long. haha.

We had mission tour this week. Remember how that happened last year? Basically it's when a general authority comes to speak to the mission ALL DAY and make sure we're all bein legit. So this year it was Elder Christoffel Golden. He's from South Africa. He is a member of the 1st quorum of the seventy. He likes missionary work, and he's a Mormon. (jk. sorry. terrible joke.)

So anyways. He said some pretty great stuff. (He also rebuked the heck out of us, but hey! We needed it!) His overall goal was to help our mission increase the number of baptisms each year so he talked a lot about teaching skills and faith. My favourite thing he said was:

"If you believe in someone, it's a self-fulfilling prophesy. If you believe in them, they will respond."

Quite right Elder Golden, quite right.

Anyways, I also really like Sister Manion's training! She talked about being missionaries that work so "that we may stand blameless before God at the last day" from the Doctrine and Covenants. That's what I'm trying to do. I really truly want to serve God with all my heart, with all my might, with all my mind and with all my strength.

My other favourite thing was a quote from Winston Churchill #wiseturtle #onlyemmaknows
He said something like this:
"The future of mankind depends on our actions. We have not failed and we will not fail now. Let us move steadfastly into the storm."
For some reason I just love that. We can't shrink or shun the fight for right! We can't let the gospel of Jesus Christ be lost. This week I will move steadfastly into the storm.

In addition to mission tour, we had a pretty crazy week. We got to go on exchanges with the Forest Heights sisters. I went with Sister Moser who was trained by my THE BEST SISTER JONES IN THE WORLD. It was Uh-mazing. Seriously. So great.

Forest Heights is right in downtown Edmonton. It's beautiful. Sister Moser is pretty much the most amazing sister ever. I love her. She's training a new missionary right now, so naturally she's feeling quite inadequate. But we had the coolest moment.

As we were walking along, I noticed a cool lookout spot with a gorgeous view. So we walked over there, and as we looked out, I felt SO much love for Sister Moser. Like. God's love. So I told her that. I told her how much He loves her. He's proud of her. It was just really great. It was technically helping her, but it really helped me.

The lookout spot in Forest Heights.
We got the chance to help our potential investigator J organize one of her rooms the other day. We practically had to beg her to let us do service for her. But she's happy we did. Her reaction was EXACTLY like on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Literally. Hahaha. I should have filmed it. (and as it turns out, I enjoy cleaning. like a LOT. So it helped me as much as it helped her!!)

[Wow. Now Mom is REALLY excited to have her home!!]

We ALSO got to go help clean out a chicken barn for some less active members. I was kinda hoping we'd get to actually see chickens. (I told Sister Wilson how much I love gutting them...) But all we ended up doing was sweep for like 5 hours. haha. so great. #backpain #gettinold

The best thing that happened this week was probably yesterday. We started off our day checking facebook to see if any of our friends like us. And GUESS WHAT?!?!?!

Remember Pierre? Our Fb investigator????

HE GOT BAPTIZED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pierre's Baptism picture
Seriously. He did. He sent us a message on Friday that was like "If this will bring me closer Jesus than I'm ready. Let's get baptized!!!!!" (that's literally what he said haha) So we were kinda like...ok....but he legit did. He sent us pics from his baptism. He used the church locator and has been attending church for the past 2 weeks. He met the missionaries there and was taught all the lessons in a week. And now he's baptized.

:O

Yeah. We pretty much freaked out. We're baptizing missionaries!!!!! Except...not really. But kinda!!! We taught him!!!!! And it's only been like 3 weeks! What a miracle. Oh man. I got to write his name in my PMG. :) haha so great. It was great.

So yeah. It's been pretty great. I've been kinda freaking out a whole bunch lately. It's like my "I-only-have-3-months-left-where-has-the-time-gone-what-have-i-even-accomplished" freak out. So. That's unfortunately a thing. But even in little insignificant stuff like that, I know God cares. He's given me so many tender mercies!! :D And I'm sure grateful for that!

"I have beheld his glory, and I am encircled about eternally in the arms of his love...
...Awake, [Sister Whiting]; put on the armor of righteousness. Shake off the chains with which ye are bound, and come forth out of obscurity, and arise from the dust."
-2 Nephi 1:15,23

I love being a missionary.

There Can Be MIIIRRRACLESSSSSS, When You BELIEVE!!! *sing it loud and proud*

Mission Leader Conference. All my surviving companions are in this picture. Sister B Wilson, Sister J Wilson, Sister Burton, Sister Jones, and a few other favorites like Sister Holbrook and Sister Rush. #fullnessofjoy #lovethesegirls #perksofbeinginleadership
This is a week FULL of exciting news!!! So here we go!
1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAM!!!!!! Just thought I'd start my email with that exciting news!!!!! My cutie little bro turned a whole decade old. woah. haha (And it was a #peacemcswagalicious nice birthday, too, hey!)

2. Our Fb investigator Pierre has decided to get baptized!! :D Granted. I won't be at the baptism. 'Cause he lives in Europe..........but still. SO COOL!! We'll have to help him transition to his European missionaries this week for that. So we'll see!

3. We had MLC this week and I got to be in the same room as almost all my favourite people except Sister Warr and Sister Cardona!!! #Fulnessofjoy We spent the 6 hours talking about how we can help the mission increase the number of baptisms every year. :O yeah. It was long. But cool! We set up a plan of action to get everyone started!!! SO STOKED!

4. Remember C from Lakewood? Who bought us clothes and food all the time? Well. She somehow managed to STILL get food and stuff for me and my new companion while I'm all the way in Sherwood Park. She sent it with Sister Burton to MLC and now I have a ridiculous stock pile of candy and Ketchup chips by my desk..... #Immagetfat #3monthstosexyfail

5. We got to see our investigator K the other day. She was sooooooo sweet. She hasn't had company in so long that when we showed up, she had made her coffee table look all elegant with china plates and mugs and serviettes and stuff. She gave us delicious herbal tea and muffins!!! It was like a fancy tea party where we also talked about the gospel. hahaha. so nice. (except for the bug that was floating around in my mug......try tactfully taking that out while teaching the restoration.....lol)

6. On Sunday we decided to go to Young Women's for third hour. The young women in this ward are like all AMAZING. They're all super pretty and WAAY nice. IT was soooo great. I sat by Isabella who is actually Sister Morrison's sister!!! WAY COOL! So I think I'm going to be best friends with her. She reminded me of Emma. :) After church, they all ran to their moms to convince them to sign up to feed the sister missionaries. So. Our month is full. I guess the way to the ward is through the youth! #swerve #lovethem #lovingglenallan

7. I went on exchanges with the Tofield sisters this week! Sister Hill and Sister Van Vaulkenberg! IT was soooo fun! Tofield is a lot like Drayton Valley. So it was so fun for me to go there and be kinda sorta home. :) While we were there, we taught their investigator J who is super great! He has so much faith!
After his lesson, our next appointment fell through. So we were leafing through potentials trying to decide what to do, when all of a sudden, Sister Hill thought of a family to see. After she said their name, she was like "oh no. we can't try them. they're never home. blah blah....NO. THE SPIRIT TOLD ME TOO! WE HAVE TO TRY THEM."
So we went to their house and sure enough, they were all there and invited us in! We read the Book of Mormon with them and as we were reading, I had such a distinct feeling that this family was going to be sooo solid! They were reading the scriptures as a family and they set a goal to continue doing so. They are setting their foundation upon the Rock! :D

8. We got to do service for a less active lady in the ward. She made me a hat that's super sweet. Also. She let us have some of her potatoes. But we had to dig them up ourselves. So I got to harvest potatoes. I think for the first time. #ArentIfromIdaho #Apparentlynot #idahopride So that was delicious. :)

FUNNY STORY TIME:

Once upon a time Sister Wilson and I equally love Harry Potter almost too much. (but really. who can blame us?) However, we have both been out for quite some time now. And the mission veil continues to grow thicker and thicker. (strange description, hey?)
So one night, while we were nightly planning, we somehow got on the topic of midnight premieres and I mentioned that my first midnight movie was Harry Potter #5 with Brittany! So then we started talking about HP and as we were talking, we realized we couldn't remember the title to the 5th and 6th books. We like TOTALLY panicked. It was quite ridiculous. I never thought I could forget. haha #missionprobs.
Finally we discovered that the members we live with had the books on the shelf by our desks. So we remembered and felt like idiots. haha.
The end.

LOVE YOU ALL!!!!! :)

P-day breakfast.

Welcome to Glen Allan

Note from the Editor:  This is last week's letter. I should have posted it on August 30, but was swamped. She is sending lots of pictures these days. :-)

Hello hello!!

Well. I am sitting here writing you from Sherwood Park. It's part of the "greater Edmonton area" (which pretty much just means it gets mentioned separately when you call the weather forecast number). I'm officially cool cause I'm in Glen Allan ward. I think. haha.

I'll admit. Last week was extremely hard. I was super sad to leave Sister Burton and Lakewood. But I got to see A and C and T and all of them before I left. So that was good. Hopefully I'll be allowed to go to Lakewood for A's baptism. ALSO! I found out that the park Lakewood is having their ward picnic at, is in my ward boundaries!!!! Maybe I'll see them, hey? #fingerscrossed #lakewoodpride

Transfer meeting was cool cause ALL my companions except the first 3 were there. I didn't get a picture cause the world was freaking out. But it was sweet. haha. Love them ALL! Saddest day cause SISTER CARDONA WENT HOME!!! But not THAT sad cause guess what. She is moving back to Edmonton tomorrow. hahahaha. SWEET! So weird. Life is happening.

My new comp is Sister Jordyn Wilson. (Probably just Fb stalk her cause her profile pic is GORGEOUS). She's sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo amazing. She was comps with Sister Burton before. So now we're like a little web of being companions with each other. #MissionFamilyTree She's from Franklin, ID. Also Preston. #Hollaholla I told her I know the secretary from Napoleon Dynamite and she was like "um. that was my life." hahahahaha love her.

Glen Allan is pretty much sweet!!! We get to drive the prettiest car in the whole mission. It's WHITE!!! (that's special or something) Also. We live in the basement of a member's home. It has carpet and wifi. (Are you jealous, Sister Burton?? haha jk love you) Also the members we live with have a chihuahua. So pretty much I always think about the Kinniburghs. :) #Apolloismybestfriend #missthem #draytonvalleyismyhome

It's been great! The only down side is that there are no street numbers. They're all super random names like Glamogram and Marion and Guilford. So yeah. I'm totally lost all the time. haha. BUT. We have a GPS!!!!! #swerve

We had a ward party like my 3rd day here, so that was pretty convenient. AND our almost investigator named K came. She's from Germany and guess what?!?! A past missionary from Germany was there visiting!!! So he came over and talked to her in German. She thought that was the coolest thing ever. #tendermercies She kept telling us over and over how amazing all the people were and how she doesn't have a single friend at her church. #fellowshipisimportant #everyinvestigatorneedsamemberfriend Our ward is sooo nice.

Lately we've been trying to get involved with more service. The purpose of it is to help members meet nonmembers so they actually have referrals to give us. Also because service softens hearts and strengthens testimony. Also cause when you serve others, it heals the soul. So yeah. In the week I've been here, I've bleach cleaned 3 bath tubs. hahaha. #Serve2Swerve

We have a Fb investigator and his name is Pierre. Every time we get on Fb to teach him, I always say "oh Pierre, you shouldn't have come!" and Sister Wilson looks at me like I've lost my marbles. Maybe I have.....
But it was so cool to teach him. He LOVES Jesus Christ and his main thing is the importance of obedience. So we have been able to testify to obedience to the commandments that are taught us in the Bible, Book of Mormon and through modern revelation. It's going great!!

I finished reading the Book of Mormon this week and it was soooo crazy. When I finished reading, I knelt down to pray. And it was like the first time I ever read it! The spirit filled my heart so full it could've burst!! I know, by the power of the Holy Ghost, that the Book of Mormon is true. I love it with all my heart because it pulls me nearer to Jesus Christ than any other book. I'm so joyful that I get to share this with others!!

Love you all!
Sister Whiting

Saying good-bye to the Duponts

Also my fave people. Sister McCoy is the first person I ever met in Lakewood. And I will never forget all the influence she's had in my life...And the cute bag she gave me for my birthday. :-)

Sister Cardona...oh wait....now she's Melanie!!! Eeeewwwwwwwww.

I'm so sad. I'm leaving my other half. (She isn't as convincing as her companion. )

Haha! Sister Wilson 1.0 Love this girl!

Our mission family web. I've been with Sister Burton and Sister Wilson. Sister Wilson has been with me, Sister Burton and Sister Hatch (on the left.) Sister Hatch was trained by Sister Johnson and is not comps with Sister Burton. Family!!

Haha! Sister Wilson 2.0 love this girl!
