I Praise the Love That Makes Me Whole Again!

WHAT A WEEK!!! Holy smokes!! Lots happened.

We drove to the city last Monday night so we could sleep in the mission home before zone conference. But we got lost on the way there. And we misunderstood the directions Sister Manion gave us to find our way back. So we got stuck behind a train for 30 minutes. Haha. What a gong show! But we made it there safely!! And it was so fun to stay there! and...

I GOT TO SEE SISTER WARR!!!!! haha. It was so exciting that I had to put it in the email. haha

Zone conference was really good. We talked about the heart and how our hearts can be broken, changed, healed, turned and filled with love through the Savior, Jesus Christ. With that we talked about family history and how we can turn the hearts of our investigators to their fathers! :) It was so cool! I love how the Lord really does work through our hearts to teach us and strengthen us.

It made me realized how much I love the Sacrament. I tell everyone that they can turn to Christ and be made whole but sometimes I think that I don't have that same privilege. But that's soo not true!!! I can repent and start fresh every single week!!! Repentance is so amazing that way!! I love the plan that our Heavenly Father has made for us!! :) It's so sweet!!

After making it back to Drayton, we discovered in our area book that we had 89 former investigator forms. That's right. 89!! So we decided we need to contact ALL of them!!!! :D As we've done this, we've found quite a few that are still interested in being taught! Hooray!!! So we've got a few more people to teach!

Random tender mercy time.

There's this girl that we meet every week to help her with her math homework. And this last week when we went to see her, she told us that she scored 89% on both of her last math tests!!!! (this is a huge deal. she was getting like 23%) So then she told all her friends that the sister missionaries tutor her. :) HOLLA!! So yeah. We felt pretty proud of our nerd skills. But also for the cool finding that happened. #TenderMercy

We also started teaching a part member family that we had only heard about from the past missionaries. S and Y. He's from Tonga and she's from somewhere in Canada. They're' sooooo funny!!!!!! We went over and he just kept trying to feed us! But we had just had supper so we kept saying no thanks. Finally he was like "You won't eat!!! I think you're racist!!!" We kinda awkwardly were like "uh. uh. no. no we're not." But then he just started laughing super loud. haha He's like the guy from "The Other Side of Heaven" haha.

But he came to church!!! So that was soooooooo exciting!!!!!!!

Yesterday was National Family Day. Yes. Canada has that. Probably everyone should have that. It should be INTERNATIONAL Family Day. But whatevs. #FreeAgency

We got to go ice fishing. It was so scary!! :O And cool. the ice on the lake was about 2 feet thick plus there was about 8 inches of snow on top. So we DROVE onto the lake.

That's right. In a truck. WE DROVE ONTO A LAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :O

I was practically screaming the whole time I was so scared. The members who took us just laughed at my wimpiness. :) haha. It was fun though. We didn't catch any fish but we saw some! It was pretty crazy! haha and cold.

Now. The other day was crazy. Let me tell you about it.

We went to the church during lunch to practice our songs we're doing for the musical fireside. Somehow while we were there, we accidentally locked our phone in the library. So we went to the branch president's house for the key. While we were driving, we had the windows down and a guy drove by and splashed a HUGE puddle in the window onto Sister J and the entire inside of the car practically. Yuck.

After like a 2 hour gong show, we finally got back to missionary work. We went to try a former investigator. We got there RIGHT AS HE GOT HOME! But only for a brief moment before he had to leave again!

If we hadn't had that gong show, we would have gone to his house while he wasn't there!!!!!

Seriously it's all just a big fat testimony that God really is there and he LOVES us!!! Jesus Christ knows when we're going through a gong show! He helps us! He makes it all ok! This gospel really does bless families! IT'S ALL TRUE FOR PETE's SAKE!!!!!!!!

"And now, my brethren, I would that ye should hear me, for I speak in the energy of my soul..."

"...For I am called to speak after this manner, according to the holy order of God, which is in Christ Jesus; yea, I am commanded to stand and testify unto this people the things which have been spoken by our fathers concerning the things which are to come."

"And this is not all. Do ye not suppose that I know of these things myself? Behold, I testify unto you that I do know that these things whereof I have spoken are true. And how do ye suppose that I know of their surety?"

"Behold, I say unto you they are made known unto me by the Holy Spirit of God. Behold, I have fasted and prayed many days that I might know these things of myself. And now I do know of myself that they are true; for the Lord God hath made them manifest unto me by his Holy Spirit; and this is the spirit of revelation which is in me."

That is my testimony. I hope you all know. This is so important!! I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY!!!!!!!!

Love ya!!

No Unhallowed Hand Can Stop the Work From Progressing!!!!

** Attention Ginger Journal fans: Thanks for your patience. What a great week we had, but it did keep me from getting this letter up right away. Sarah should be sending a new letter today and I will get it up more quickly. Thanks!**

Hola familia!!

This week was pretty much the craziest. Well actually it wasn't. But still. It was cool cause I'm doing missionary work. haha I'm so random.

K. Moving on. So this week was cool because we got to be freezing again. The snow dumped all over Drayton so it got crazy driving. But that didn't stop us!!!

Speaking of driving. I'm the driver now!! :D Hooray! It's funny because as the passenger I would always tell Sister J that I got too tired and would fall asleep in the car. And she'd be like "stay awake to help me stay alert!" But now she's the passenger. We had to go to Alder Flats and on the drive back, she was like "MUST. STAY. AWAKE." We drove with the windows down for a few minutes in the snow. That woke us up!! haha I love her.

We shovelled a million driveways this week. That was cool. At first we thought it was kind of a waste of time. But then some members told us that people were posting on the Drayton Valley opinions page that they like how the Mormon missionaries shovel for people!!! :D No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing!!! :)

One day we were tracting and we met a super nice lady who wasn't really interested in the gospel. But she liked what we were doing so she told us some of her neighbors we should teach. #AskEveryoneForReferrals

So we knocked on their doors and we met this guy named T. He was hilarious. We said something about how we shovel driveways for people. He was like "for strangers?????" He thought that was pretty scary. Then we were like "well yeah! we teach about Jesus Christ. We might as well teach by example!" So he lit up and was like "LIKE SHARING!!" So he runs into this house and brings back a plate of cookies. He was like "I just made these! Take them!" So yeah. We got cookies while tracting. #AllWeDoIsWin

We taught L again. It was soooo good! We watched the Restoration with her to understand better what happened to Joseph Smith. Something must have happened because she totally opened up to us and told us about what's holding her back. The coolest thing ever!!!! She says whenever she tries to read the Book of Mormon, she gets too distracted. So she believes that it's Satan trying to keep her from reading it!!!!

How cool is that?!?!?! We told her she was right. Cause it's so true. Everytime someone gets remotely close to accepting the gospel, Satan hardcore attacks them so they won't. But L is smarter than that. She knows if he's attacking, what she's doing must be right! Otherwise he wouldn't try to stop her!!

You're probably wondering why I started my email in Spanish? Well that's because we got an almost new investigator that is Hispanic and she's super nice. So yeah. Can't wait to teach her!

Sister J and I keep getting "world" music stuck in our heads. So when we do, we change the words so that it's a missionary song. :) We've made up quite a few this week!

"All I do is preach preach preach no matta what! Got Jesus on my mind and I'll never give it up! And when we step up in the building everybody's hearts go UP TO GOD! And they stay there! And they stay there!" etc. etc. etc.

haha we're cool right?

That one was inspired by this man we met tracting. We walked up to his door and we heard SUPER loud thuggin' music playing. Haha. So before we knocked we kinda might have danced a bit. Then we knocked on this door and the music suddenly turned off. This guy opened the door super fast and was like "oh hey. you look familiar!" haha. um what? no. we don't. So that was awkward. He was like 13 probably. haha

So then we made up that song. :)

Also. Gord is still not smoking. So. That happened. :) We're so proud of him it's ridiculous.

Yeah. It was a great week. Lots of fall throughs. Lots of snow. Lots of doors slammed in our faces. Soreness from shoveling so much.

But you know what?

It's so worth it! I love it all! I love this gospel! I love being a missionary!

Love you all!!!

"Eat Slugs, Malfoy!"

I guess I should explain this title...
There is a talk by Tad R. Callister called "Becoming a Consecrated Missionary". To become a consecrated missionary, we have to sacrifice things such as fear, pride, etc. So Sister J and I have a "sacrifice jar" to help us do this. Every week we write something we want to sacrifice on a piece of paper and we put it in the jar.

This week, we came to the conclusion that we were getting to be too sluggish. So we wrote "Eat Slugs Malfoy!" on a paper and put it in the jar.[Editor's note: They are both big Harry Potter fans so any mention of slugs brought this quote to mind.] :) And it just so happens that she has a Harry Potter wand with a maple leaf on it. So naturally we started quoting Harry Potter and also our quote board has a picture of Ron on it. :) In our defense, Harry Potter is TOTALLY a gospel analogy. [I may ask her to explain that one...hey?]

So anyways. This week has been quite a gong show. haha. Here's what happened:

-Remember that moose we saw last week? We found it dead on the side of the road.
-The warm weather is gone. It is now freezing cold again. We had a few days of freezing rain so it's been slick.
-2 different people told us that if we tried talking to them ever again, they'd sue us....
-We got lost in Wildwood in a snow storm which was freaky!!!

Haha. Crazy right? But don't worry. There was so much good stuff that happened on top of all that, that it's still a good week! :) Sister J and I started keeping a small purple notebook with us all the time so we can record miracles that we see. So that's been filling up!

GORD STOPPED SMOKING!!!!!! He's made it the whole week!!!!!! :D IT's been so so so so SOOO exciting!!!!! We made him a couple more packs of "spiritual smokes" so that he can have more to read. I'm seriously so so proud of him. He's doing so well. And it's making such a positive change for him and his family! :D :D :D :D

We taught L again. She's just amazing. She started out thinking she could NEVER have faith ever again. But now she says the prayers in lessons. She reads the Book of Mormon daily. She is just so fantastic. I love her so much. :) I'm really happy to see the joy come back into her life. :)

The other day Sister J and I found a road that we haven't been on before. So we decided to tract it out. It was pretty miraculous at first just because everyone was actually nice to us. But then we knocked on a door and met a lady named I. She was super nice but she believes that with all the bad that happens in the world, there couldn't be a God.

There's a TON of people with this concern. And usually when people say this, I kind of just nod and say "oh yeah. it's hard". #Lame!

But this time I didn't want to waste an opportunity to help her find joy!

So I told her about agency. That it's one of the greatest gifts God has given us! But sometimes people use their agency poorly so that it has a negative effect on others. This makes God sad. But he won't take our agency away. Rather, if we turn to him, he will help us and give us strength to overcome. :)

Not only did saying this make me feel better, but it helped her too!!! She talked to us for another 20 minutes or so and then accepted a Plan of Salvation pamphlet. :) I'm so excited!!! Hopefully we can teach her!

Our FB investigator pretty much hated us on Monday over text. It's a long story. So our day was pretty much ruined. :( But on Saturday, he decided not to hate us anymore!!! #MiraclesHappen

There's a scripture in the Book of Mormon that's been on my mind A LOT this week. So I think I'll share it with y'all. It's in Alma 5. It says:

"...could ye say, if ye were called to die at this time, within yourselves, that ya have been sufficiently humble?..."

It reminds me of the talk by President Uchtdorf called "Lord, Is It I?" https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/10/lord-is-it-i?lang=eng

I think if we all could just be little more humble, we would be better able to develop all the other Christlike attributes, thus making this world a happier and better place. We're just all too full of ourselves sometimes, hey?

I love being a missionary. It's so great.

Love you all!!!!!!!!
Peace out!

When we got lost we found these pumpjacks in the woods. We couldn't leave without taking a picture first.
